It is hard to say exactly how Rin's story will end. Most likely, her future will not be resolved within the manga, leaving fans to imagine what will become of this sweet little girl. Considering the misfortune of her past, one hopes that the future holds greater happiness for her. In a time when tragedy seems to be a constant presence, people must hold on to whatever happiness they can find. If one is to guess possible futures for Rin, there are some that are more likely than other futures.

Death
Perhaps Rin will remain with her makeshift family until she dies. This might be when she reaches old age or it might be when she is relatively young. In the former case, she lives with her family until, one day she either gets to ill to travel or simply dies of old age. This seems unlikely because at some point she would start to slow Sesshoumaru down, burdening him. She would more likely stop traveling with him before old age begins to really take over. In the later, an event could place in which she gets killed and Sesshoumaru is unable (or unwilling) to revive her. Perhaps she sacrifices her life to protect her new family, or perhaps she loses her life in battle and they are unable to protect her. Either way, it seems a rather sad ending for a girl who has already survived so much tragedy.

Abandoned
One day, Sesshoumaru might tire of his companions and leave them behind. It may be that he decides that having companions (particularly a human companion) makes him weak. Suddenly he stops walking, turns to the Rin, Jaken, and Ah Un and says, "I'm going on alone," and continues walking despite their protests. Perhaps at some point he will leave her behind and never return for her. This is a very unlikely scenario, because, after all, he has tolerated Jaken for a long time without forsaking him. Although he is slow to allow people to join him, it seems unlikely that he would simply abandon them for no reason.

Graceful Endings
Rather than Sesshoumaru leaving Rin, perhaps Rin will leave him. Maybe when she is older she will fall in love with a boy (Kohaku maybe) and decide to stay with him rather than continuing to travel with her family. Not matter how much they may love their families, most girls eventually leave them for marriage and a new family. Even if she does not fall in love with someone, perhaps one day she will decide she cannot go on any further. A teenager now, or perhaps even a bit older, she knows that the time has come to leave. She stops, Sesshoumaru pauses, turns slightly, and continues walking. Jaken and Ah Un are confused, but Sesshoumaru understands. She hangs her head, as a tear streams down her cheek. "Good-bye Lord Sesshoumaru…" Than she begins walking in the opposite direction to the nearest town where she will begin building a new life alone, but stronger because of influence of her father figure.

Of course this is a fictional story, so there does not have to be an ending. Perhaps by not ending this aspect of the story, readers can simply believe that they will continue as they are-a strange but oddly happy family-forever.
